UK school closes over swine flu
May 5, 2009 by Infowars Ireland
A school has temporarily closed in Britain after two of its pupils were confirmed to have the new flu virus, bringing the total number of schools which are shut to five, the government’s Health Protection Agency (HPA) said today.
Governors at Dolphin School in Battersea, south London, took the decision despite the HPA saying it was unnecessary because the pupils had not displayed any symptoms while at school.
The age or sex of the pair, who are siblings, are not known. They are suffering mild symptoms, an HPA spokesman said.
On Monday, the HPA confirmed nine new cases of swine flu, bringing the total across the country to 27.
The nine included the two pupils, five other children of school age in London, and two adults from London and the West Midlands.
Another 331 suspected cases were being investigated.
The HPA said that as a precautionary measure, the school with five new confirmed cases, Alleyn’s School in Dulwich, south London, would “remain closed following the bank holiday weekend, initially for seven consecutive days”.
The five were thought to have been in contact with a fellow pupil who had recently returned from the United States and had already been confirmed as having swine flu, it said.
