SayNo.ie Re-Launches No to Lisbon Campaign “Same Treaty, Same Answer – Vote No to Lisbon”

Same Treaty, Same Answer – Vote No to Lisbon
The CAEUC (SayNo.ie) is campaigning once more for the defeat of a treaty that has already been rejected three times: Ireland in 2008 and France and the Netherlands in 2005 when Lisbon was put to the people as the EU Constitution.
If passed on the fourth attempt, it would simply reinforce the militarist and neo-liberal policies which have caused the economic crisis. And the referendum on October 2nd is not about EU membership, as we’re being told, but very definitely about future EU policies. We have to ask ourselves – again – if we want an EU that supports billions being given to the banks, while health and education budgets are cut and millions made unemployed. These would be Lisbon’s priorities.
Taoiseach Brian Cowen et al are making much of “promises” they have extracted from Brussels on how the treaty might work, but the European Council says they … “will clarify, but not change, either the content or application of the Lisbon Treaty”.
Likewise EU Commissioner Charlie McCreevy admits Lisbon has the support of the elite, but not the people: “All of the politicians of Europe would have known that if Lisbon had been put to their electorate in a referendum, the answer in 95% of countries would have been no.”
We are being asked to vote again on exactly the same treaty.
If we reverse our vote of June 2008, Lisbon will have to be in force for several years before any of the promised protocols come into existence. The Government and Ministers in power then will be bound by nothing said or promised by Nicolas Sarkozy or Angela Merkel today.
This treaty is the same. Our answer should be the same. Vote No to Lisbon
