The Road Safety Authority (RSA) has quietly announced that it is doubling the price of the driving test for car and motorcycle licences.

The price of the driving test jumps from €38 to €75, but the RSA argues that the price of the test hasn’t increased in 17 years and the service provided is considerably better than before, with shorter waiting times and a new online booking service. It also points out that the increased fee is still significantly cheaper than most other EU countries. The cost for other RSA services, including the Driver Theory Test, Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC), Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) registration, National Car Test and Digital Tachograph Card, are not being increased.
