Soldiers on the battlefield could soon benefit from new state-of-the-art surveillance equipment that can remotely pinpoint snipers, ambushes and explosive devices.
A throwable wheeled robot and a remote-controlled helicopter were both unveiled at a demonstration at the Defence and Equipment Support at Abbey Wood, near Bristol.
The 500g robot, which is equipped with cameras and other sensors, is made from titanium and can be thrown by soldiers into buildings to see enemy activity.
It is controlled by a joystick and includes a hand-held screen allowing the operator to see weak points in enemy formations.
The lightweight helicopter is fitted with four rota heads and is designed to hover over the battlefield giving a wide-angled view of enemy positions. Read full article…
