Romanian poresident Traian Basescu
President Traian Basescu announced on Thrusday, 4th February 2010, that Romania is ready to sign an anti-missile deal proposed by US president Barack Obama.
According to Mr Basescu, a number of terrestrial interceptors are to be installed on Romanian territory as part of a missile defence shield in Europe.
However, all the official agreements that are to be signed on this purpose will need to be backed by the Romanian Parliament.
‘The new system is not oriented against Russia,’ president Babsescu emphasised. He believes that hosting the US anti-ballistic missile system will dramatically increase Romania’s degree of security.
